Magic Apple Winter Holiday Show
|
Admission and Show Information
There will be an admission charge of $15 for adults and $5 for children over 10 years of age with a maximum of $25 per family. Please note that 100 % of the admission proceeds will be donated to three charities that the students themselves voted on during a class meeting. This show is an important way for our students to contribute to their communities and being able to make a difference really has a profound impact on Magic Apple students--they really are able to see that they can indeed make a difference through hard work and commitment.
Family members and friends may contribute cash (we'll have post-its for you to indicate your donation preference if any--see below for description) or tax-deductible checks written to your choice of one or all of these worthwhile organizations. We should all be impressed and moved by your children as they participated in a very detailed and active discussion on how to use the funds they are working so hard to earn! The charitable organizations that your students selected at their class meeting to give their holiday show admission fees are:
SISTER FLORA'S ORPHANAGE: Rowen's dad, Monte Short, visits countries in need to bring medical supplies and doctors and told our students about this amazing place. Sister Flora Blanchette's orphanage is in a very remote area of Haiti and serves primarily children with severe special needs; she happens to be Catholic but her works are non-sectarian and no child is ever turned away. The orphanage is her life's work, she has been in Haiti since 1967 and established not just an orphanage, but also a hospital, and a school. Currently, the orphanage goes through 440 diapers and six 5lb. containers of dry milk a week; and as you might imagine the needs are ongoing. If you would like to contribute to this charity please write your check to Los Medicos Valadores and on the memo line write Sr. Flora
RESURRECTION CHURCH, Lazarus at the Door: This is a direct "neighbor helping neighbor" program that assists locals in our community with a variety of needs: weekly food distribution, rent assistance, infant supplies, etc. This program is funded only through donations and makes a profound impact in our community. Checks may be made directly to Resurrection Church with the note Lazarus in the memo.
WATER for PUERTO RICANOS: For many years now, Magic Apple has been presenting lessons about the struggles for clean and safe water among so many of the world's children. Our students selected the goal of assisting Puerto Rican children in accessing clean water since the storms this year, If you'd like to contribute to this charity please make your check may to UNICEF with the words PR water in the memo.
We congratulate our students for their thoughtfulness in selecting these organizations for their donations and thank all our families and friends for making their dreams happen—enjoy the show!
